A hat shop with two sides
We sell hats for the dance floor and hats for the ranch, and we take both seriously. Here is how the shop works and why it is built this way.
Two counters, one shop
Shop Disco Cowboy Hats is an independent US hat shop with a split personality we are happy to admit. One side of the store is for nights out: bachelorette weekends in Nashville, festival campgrounds, arena shows and any party where the dress code reads "western, but louder." The other side is a proper western counter, stocked with Stetson felt and straw that is sized to fit and shaped for real wear.
We built it this way because the same customer often needs both. Somebody buys a pink faux-fur hat for a bachelorette in March and comes back in October wanting a fitted felt for a wedding. We would rather help with the second hat than send them somewhere else for it.
The party side
Our disco cowboy hats are a short, deliberate lineup right now: three styles, picked because they hold their shape through a long night. The Mirror Ball is the showpiece: a western-shaped hat faced in mirror tiles, with a rhinestone-trimmed brim. The Plush Party Faux-Fur is a shaggy bell-crown hat in six colors, running from brown and black to mint green and light pink. The Dancehall Retro is made of felt-look polyester with a bell crown, a studded band and a silver longhorn medallion, and it comes in twelve colors. Those two are one size M, which fits roughly 56 to 58 cm, or about US 7 to 7 1/4.
If you want the hat to carry all the shine, that is the Mirror Ball's job. With the faux-fur and retro styles, put the sparkle in the outfit instead: a sequin top, metallic boots, a rhinestone belt.
The western side
This is where the hat-shop habits show. We carry Stetson western hats across 139 felt and straw styles, from wool felt and fur felt graded 4X up to 1000X, to shantung, palm, hemp and Panama straws. Prices run from $40 to $5,600. Most fitted sizes fall between 6 3/4 and 7 3/4, and a few youth sizes are in the mix.
If you are new to cowboy hats, here is the short version. Reach for felt hats in cooler months and for dressier occasions, and straw hats when the job is heat and sun. A higher X on a felt generally signals more fine fur and a denser, smoother finish, which you can feel in the hand and see in how the brim keeps its line.
