About this hat

The Open Road shape dates to 1937, when buyers got it uncreased and shaped the crown themselves. Since 1948 it has left the factory with a hand-pressed cattleman crease, and Lyndon Johnson wore his around the Texas ranch so often it became part of his image. Here the low 4 1/4-inch crown and short 2 3/4-inch bound-edge brim are made in 30X fur felt, very dense and smooth in the hand.

A grosgrain band carries a sterling silver branding-iron pin marked JBS for John B. Stetson, finished with gold overlay and inset stones. The sweatband is premium roan leather, under a deluxe satin liner. Chocolate or Silverbelly, 6 3/4 through 7 3/4, delivered in a Stetson Premier box.
